May 2018

$250,000 settlement: Insurer denied coverage for partial roof collapse at vacant restaurant. Insurer claimed that collapse resulted from deteriorated roof joists and longstanding water damage for which insurer did not provide coverage. Investigation showed insurer relied upon out of state architect who was not licensed in Connecticut, and that insurer lacked any engineering report that supported its position. Suit for breach of contract settled in mediation before depositions taken.

April 2018

$50,000 settlement: Client injured in motor vehicle accident after being hit from behind. Client received treatment from chiropractor and acupuncturist but was able to continue working. Suit settled before depositions taken, at judicial pretrial.

March 2018

$750,000 settlement: Insurer denied coverage for elderly widow's claim of roof damage from the weight of snow and ice. Insurer belated estimated cost of repair at $60,000 but continued to deny coverage. Suit for unfair insurance practices and breach of contract settled as trial was about to begin after unfavorable claims investigation and handling details uncovered during discovery.

$400,000 settlement: Client bicyclist injured at the intersection when a car turned into cyclist's path. Settlement paid by insurer for car driver and client's underinsured motorist insurer.

$104,000 settlement: Client injured in intersection car crash when errant driver ran light. Case resolved by arbitration award in client's favor, and paid by errant driver's insurance company.
